MANAWATU NOTES

Although the police have used every endeavour to find' the man who is suspected of having cut tho throat of the unfortunate woman who was found in a bv-street on the outskirts of Palmersto.i North on Wednesday morning last week; so far no arrest has been made. After a long spell of humid and calm weather with occasional .showers, the weather has now changed, ami strong winds are being experienced alternating with rain, and the nights are inich colder.- Feed is still luxurious, and the farmers and graziers are assured of a plentiful supply for winter. Most of the dairy factories are still working tuit time. , . ■ ' Pat sheep are still coming forward to tho various freezing works in large quantities, and the quality of both sheep and lambs is very good. To cope with tho traffic a number of special stock trains have had to be run, At a meeting of the A. and P. Association held at Palmerston North a proposal was made to increase the_ subscription of members, it being pointed out that the privileges obtained for a ticket of membership were worthy of a higher subscription. In .the course of a discussion, it was pointed out that a good liiany of the holders of these tickets, didnot make full use of tho privileges, and it was argued that if the subscription was raised it miirht be the means of the association losing a number of members. Eventually it was decided to hold the matter over. it a meeting held in Palmerston on Tuesday- night it was decided to form a Y.M.C'.A. Hockey Club, and the following officers were elected; 1 atroii, Mr. T. E. Hodder; president, Mr. A. Buchanan, vice-presidents.-Dr. Will and Mr W. Cameron; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. A. Barnard; club captain, Mr. C Aitcheson. Messrs. N. Wallace and C TVe were appointed delegates to tho association. It was decided to enter two t»ams for the Dawick Shield competition.
