Tho form Mosterton's war memorial is to take was deiinitely decided ot a public meeting held last night, tho Mayor (Mr. W. H. Jackson) presiding. A suitable monument will be erected in the Municipal Park, the cost not to exceed £2000.'The site known as the eld showgrounds, containing 12J acres, and presented to the community, some time .ago by Mossra. Cameron Bros, as a memorial, will be laid out for field sports, and will be known as the Masterton Soldiers' Memorial and Cameron Park. To thin will bo addod an adjacent 71 iicros of land, thus making a total area of 20 acres. A. grandstand, to' cost in the vicinity of .£BOOO, and necessary sports equipment,' will be provided. A committee of 15 has been appointed with power to act pending the incorporation of a permanent society, which will control matters appertaining to Ihe monument and tho memorial park, and which will comprise the Mayor, tho ;hairmen of the County Council and the Trust Lands Trust, and representatives of the A. and P. 'Association, public and private secondary and primary schools, <md the, Technical; School. The present committee intend to hurry matters along by calling for donations, and thereafter their first duty will 1)6 the erection of tho monument. During' the month of February, tho Masterton Borough Council received the gunr.of 41899 in rates and £4Q 1-fc. in license'fees. A-Ladies' Committee has been formed in'connection with the Wnirarapa Caledonian' Society. Mrs. Alex Mutrio is president," Mosdames ' J., Donn and J. "Walker vice-presidents and Mies Shackloj»n secretary.
