The reason is that the only petrol available is a shipment of 8000 cases that.was consigned to Napier, and the increased price was sanctioned •in order to cover the cost of tranship-, ment to Auckland, leakage allowance and commission on handling.
Referring to the matter, the representative of the Board of Trade, Mr. Patrick, who is acting as secretary to the Auckland Petrol Sub-committee, stated that the petrol was'some that was bought when the t exchange- rate in America was extreroelvjMow. It was a class of benzine'that was always retailed at Is. a case more than any other .brand, and 37a.' Gd. was'a legitimate price for .it. When the consignment was exhausted, ns it probably would lie in a few days, tho ordinary price of 30s. which had been in operation for five weeks, would be inverted to. Mr. Patrick added that the outlook in regard to supplies of benzine was hopeful.
