PETONE MAGISTRATE'S COURT

9 The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's Court was held yesterday, Mi-. E. Page, S-.M., presiding. A young man, Alfred Croft, was charged with stealing an overcoat, valued at -J;5, the property of F. C. Snelgrove. The police stated that the man was under the influence of liquor when he took the coat from the Grand National Hotel. Accused had n list of other convictions, including ono of theft, and was therefore sentenced to two months' imprisonment, the coat to bo returned to its owner.

For being on licensed premises during the currency of their prohibition orders, William H.' -Homes was fined ,£l, with costs 75., and William A. Smith ,£3 and 7s. costs. For a breach of his prohibition order Frederick G. Flowers 'was fined ,£2 and 7s. costs. Leslie Trotter, being found on licensed premises, was ordered to forfeit ,£1 and pay 7s. costs.

John Dobsou was fined £2, with tho alternative of seven days, for using obscene language in a public place. Having evaded registration under the Military Service. Act for two years, a youth, 16 years, named V. Parrant, was fined .£5 with costs. There .was a long list of charges against youths for failing to attend parade. Kenneth P. Brown was fined ,£2, and on another charge of obstructing a parade was fined £1 nnd costs 7s. On charges of failing to attend 'drill W. P. Linoliam, Richard J. Martin, and W. H. Lacey •were each fined £2 and 7s. costs; Alex, Dow nnd Stanley Elvines 80s. and 7s. costs; Thos. E. Jones, A..E. Jensen and Henry C. Thorpe 10s., and 7s. costs; Leonard Packwood .£5 and costs 75.; and Walter M. Ludlow .£3 and 7s. costs. ■

An order ms made for possession within one month from date with judgment for the' amount sued for, ,ClG_ 9s. Gd., ■with costs £2 Is., in the case in which A. B. Gibbons proceeded against F. G. Flowers for possession and arrears of rent.

A Maori woman, Ouhiaki Hoki Toke Cole, sought a separation from her pakeha husband, Herbert Cole, on the grounds of cruelty and failure to maintain heiself nnd child. She also nsked for maintenance-nnd custody of the child.

After, hearing evidence His Worship decided not to grant the separation, but made an order for maintenance at the rate of 255. per week and allowed costs amounting to ,£3 7s.
