HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegrams, flaleit March 18 and 20 respectively, from the High. Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— "Eleventh series Government wool sales commenced Monday night with unusually ■ large attendance buyers, and good competition from all sections pi our trade. Compared with closing rates last series merinos and fine crosabreds ruled about 5 per cent, dearer; medium and inferior crossbreds unchanged, but they have improved -since opening. They, are at present selling at. par .to 5 per cent, dearer. Ono hundred thousand bales shown wools Wo. available for series of which 28,5f11 a'jw.Ncw Zealand; also'l9,ooo bales on description, none of which are New Zealand." ... ri '. Butter.—No' change m price from Government; controlled butter selling at .£ls 3s. W. cu-t. wholesale and 3s. lb. retail. English, free butter average price is'3s. Sd. per lb. wholesale. ' From March 31 Irish 'bulter will not be controlled, and .then can be sold without any restrictions. . . Hemp.—Manila-market quiet and prices slightly weaker. During this week "J' grade/-January-March shipment, sold .4)72. Present quotations are: JaiiuaryJlarcli' shipment, .-C7l: March-May shipment, J169 buyers. (New Zealand market quiet.
