MASTERTON HIGH SCHOOL
IMMEDIATE ERECTION URGED. 'By Telegraph-Special Correspondent, Masterton, March 23. ■ The slowness of flu! authorities in beginning ,the erection of the new Mas-' terton High School was the subject of some pointed comment at the meeting of the Borough Council to-night. Councillor Henderson moved that several rooms in the Municipal Buildings be offered to the Education Board at a low rental for the purpose of carrying on the classes pending the eroctio'n of a school. ' i
The Mayor (Mr. W. H. Jackson) thought it would be better to pass a resolution urging the. immediate erection of the new school. The present temporary accommodation for the classes \ was far better than .anytiling that could 1)6 provided in the Municipal Buildings. There was nn excellent laboratory available to the secondary classes as they were now situated, and to equip anolhei' lalxiratory would cost about ifinCO.
Councillor Henderson said he was quite aware that the present accommodation was as .good as anything' available under the circumstances, but some move had to be made'. "Our object." he said, "is to get a high school built, and unless we move in some way or another we won't get it built."
As no one seconded the motion, tlm Mayor 'moved, and Councillor Atkinson seconded: "That the ■Government, bo requested to proceed with the erection of a High School for Mastertoii." Tin's was carried unanimously.
