DEFEAT CANTERBURY REPRESENTATIVES. By Telegraph—Proea Association. Christchurch, March 21. The matches between the Englishmen Beamish awl Lowe, and the Canterbury tennis representatives were continued 011 Saturday in lino weather, and before a Large attendance. In the singles Lowe beat Ollivier, 6—4, o—2 and Beamish beat Greenwood, 6—2, 6-3. Lowe kept a magnificent length, and many of his shots were unplayable, lis strained a leg half-way through the first set, but this handicap did not seriously affect hi play. Thero were ecino brilliant exchanges in the second set, _ but Lowe's tactics were superb and Ollivier was frequently played into a hopeleaa position. Beamish did not have much difficulty in defeating Greenwood. The latter made many mistakes in the first set, but put up a plucky fight in the second, and frequently passed Beamish ut the net. In the doubles Lowe and Beamish beat Ollivier and Greenwood, 6—3, 6—2, 9—7. In the first two sets the visitors bad tho advantage-, their playing often being unanswerable. The third set was "'cry exciting and was marked by brilliant tennis. At one stage the scores were 7—7, hut ill the two final games the visitors showed to advantage and won the set and match. LADIES' SENIOR SHIELD. An interesting match in connection with the Ladies' Senior Shield was played at tlio Pelone Club's courts on Saturdfiy to decide tlio ladies* senior club championship for the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Associations Shield. The match was the outcome of a challenge issued by the Brougham Hill Club to the holders of tlio shield (Petonc), and ended in favour of the latter by ' a comfortable margin.
