AFTER HOURS
POLICE RAID ON HOTEL.
A surprise visit wis made the other, tlav to the lake- Ferry Hotel, about 40. miles from Featherston, in consequence of the suspicions of the police that tjio conduct of the house was not what it should l>e. Two constables stationed at Featherston were directed to visit tho hotel, and taking a circuitous route they had to row three miles across the lake. They arrived at the hotel on Saturday night last, and found the place brightly lighted, with every evidence of "mina host" entertaining, thirsty guests. The constables stood near the door, and as one man was about to come out they pushed him back again and entered, f'ti... '-iv "-UK full, nnd the licence wns' "pulling" beer as fast as he could. One ponstablo rapnetl on the counter for the. proprietor, who, thinking tliev required drink, replied: "All right. Im getting it' as fast as I can."'
