Page, V 5.M.,,: dealt with tho I. police cases at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. • Kitty Stewart, a young woman, pleaded guilty-to'a charge-of theft of a gold 'bracelet watch valued at £9, tho property, of Miss Amy M'Pnrlnnd. Accused was seen leaving the room Hint belonged to the owner qf the watch, but no notice was taken, as it was thought she was au employee. However, it was found that the watch had been stolen, and accused was arrested and remanded for a week. She then disappeared, and was subsequently arrested in Gisborne. Mr. E. K. Kirkcaldie, who appeared for accused, stated that she had been in the company of doubtful characters for eomo< time, and had also'been drinking. The girl was at. present serving a sentence of a month's imprisonment for am. other offence, and counsel suggested that any fresh sentence imposed should run concurrently with the present term. ' The Magistrate entered a conviction and ordered defendant to come up for sentence when called upon within three years. , OTHER CHARGES, A fine of £U> was inflicted rpon Arthur Sommerville, who was found guilty of assaulting Reginald Wynne.- The affair took place'in a lane off Willis Street on Monday night. Sommerville, for no apparent reason, attacked Wynne, dis- ' figuring his face and tearing his clothes. The,Magistrate'directed that half of the fine should bo paid to Wynne. Thomas Henry Weir appeared to answer charges of drunkenness, of assault upon a female unknown, and of indecent exposure in Arthur Street. On the . first two counts :he was convicted and discharged, and on the third charge he was sent to gaol for two months. A. young man named W. Roach was remanded to appear on March 17 to answer a^charge of theft of various articles of jewellery valued in-all at JI2, the'property of-Winifred O'Hallornn,. of Lower Hutt.
