INFLUENZA ON BENOWN CAUSES POSTPONEMENT. fßec. March 9, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 7. Official.—The, departure of the Renown has been unavoidably postponed owing to an _ outbreak of influenza on the ship, which is strictly quarantined. ft is honed that rlo fresh cases will occur. The Prince of Wales intends to sail at the earliest possible moment. The whole of his engagements of the tour have been postponed a week, but there will be no' further postponement unless it. is absolutelv necessitated by a continuance of the epidemic. At a meeting of the Buildings Committee of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, it was ri-luctantly de- ; cided to advise -the Governor-General that the committee would not press for the Prince of Wales to open the new club : building, as there was no chance of the building being finished in time for the visit of His I?oj;al Highness. However, tho hope was'expressed that the 'Prince would lay the foundation-stone of tho Hall of Memories The Timaru branch of the A.fR.S. (according to a Press Association message received Inst evening) has passed a resolution condemning "the waste of money on the visit of the Prince of Wales," and declaring the intention of the branch not to take an? part in the celebration of the visit.
