Bell, officer .'ommandr in* No. 5 Group (Wellington), who is undergoing a "refresher'' course at Trentham, was present, and introduced Cantain Brocks to the company. n addressing the Cadets, Captain Brocks remarked that the JJpper Hutt Conipanj was the first Senior Cadet company- to participate in a "tabloid" athletic meeting, which. 110 doubt would form one or the chief features of the future physical training of the New Zealand .Army. Ono of the principal advantages of the system was that it fostered the : team spirit among troops. It was explained to the Cadets thai the ' meeting was'being held as a preliminary to a compatition which it is proposed to hold soon among Hie -Senior Cadets of the Hutt Valley, who will compete for a challenge cup presented by the AVellington Trotting Club. Tlu events on the programme were a long jump, high jump, SO yards sprint, three forward jumps, backward .sprint, and relay race, ond tho following standards were set: —High jump, 3ft. lin.; threo forward jumps, 19ft. 3in.; and long jump, 13ft. . . For the purpose'of assessing the-point# thif. company was divided--up into four teams in charge of n.c.o.'s and the. -results were as follow :-S;rgt.-Maiur Craig » team, 1; Cpl. Bishop's team, 4, md Sergt. Short's team, 8.- • ■ . The meeting was thoroughly enjoyed by tho lads, and the view of those cornpotent to judse was that the system, if adopted, would prove of benefit .t-j. the Senior, Cadets and Territorials ot the Dominion.
