ATTACKED WHILE SLEEPING
REEFTON RESIDENT .WOUNDED. i ,By Telegraph—Preea Association,' ! Nelson, March 7. Mr. W. A. StapleUm, proprietor of Stevenson's Hotel at Reefton, and owner .! of the trotter Palmdale, was the. victim of an assault about half-past three on Saturday morning. He was staying with a friend at Brightwater, and his bedroom was entered while he was asleep. He received a severe blow on the side of the head with a heavy object, which caused a largo wound. He was able to ! get up and grapple -with the intruder, hut the latter escaped. Mr. StaDleton was able to be about on Saturday. Robbery is believed to havo i been the obiect of tho assault,-but nothins was taken.
