The Duke of Roxburghe has handed over for preservation under tlio -Ancicnt Monuments Act the ruins of' Kelso Abbey. While Kelso and Jedburgh Abbeys have now been taken over under the Act, Melrose and Dryburgh were presented to the State by the Duke of liuccleuch and Lord Glenconner. Through the patriotic action of Mr. Roliortfi, of Melrose, the nation has been placed in possession of certain properties adjacent to the Abbey, which contain the foundations of the old monastic buildings. The Belgian Courts have decided that Captain Fryntt's ship, the Brussels, is a "good prize," and the Belgian Government has offered the vessel unconditionally as a free gift to tho British Government. The latter has gratefully accepted the gift. The Brussels wits' captured by the Germans on June 23, 191(1. Captain Fryalt was Rhot on July 27, 191 G. The Germans sank the ship in Zeebrugge Harbour when they left, and she was refloated bv the British Admiralty on August I, 1919. /
