CONFERENCE AT HASTINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. ' Hastings, March 1. The forty-first iftinual conference of the United Fire Brigades' Association was openod at Hastings to-day, Superintendent Keith presiding over an attendance of 140 delegates from Bluff to tho North Cape. The proceedings were opened by Mr. George Ebbett (Mayor) and Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P., extended to tho visitors a cordial welcome to tha town.

The annual report stated that tho excess cf assets over liabilities was Mia, as against .£341 last year. Rush (Palmerston North), W. S. Hart (Potone), J. B. Cros«ut (Stratford), Wj Rmvson (Stratford), and W. J. Gilberd (Napier). Two are to ba presented at this conference to J. Smith (Dannevirlce) and C. Tomorrow afternoon the Mayoress entertains the delegates at afternoon tea, and on Wednesday afternoon the delegates will be motored through the surrounding district.
