PETONE'S COAL SHORTAGE
A letter was received bv tho Petone Borough Council at its meeting last night in ivhish tho Prime Minister acknowledged receipt of. tho council's letter re. questing an intorview on the question of coal supplies; Ho stated that since writing on February 10 his time had been largely taken up with the coal conference, at which ho had been presiding for over a week. The request of the council f ov -an interview was noted on hi?, waiting list, and he would let it know later w'ien a timo could be fixed for the propose! deputation.,, In the meantime he had brought before the Coal Trade Committee the statements made by the iounc.il in ■■espect to the distribution of coal at Petone, as tho matter wa3 primarily one fnr the committee to deal with.
Councillo- Anderson thought it was timo tho council took a stronger view of this matter. They should impress on Hip Prime Minister that thev were jroing to Pee him whether ho liked it or not, and they should insist on seeing him. lln uio-'fd that they again express thci" dssire and determination to see Mr. Mawry. Councilor Chnrchouse seconded j flip motion, and said lie thought that the Minister was sparring for time. Councillor Brocklehurst thought they should point out that it was because tho Coal Trade Committee had not given any satisfaction that they had had to approach Mr. Massey. The Mnvor said ho knew that the Prime Minister was a very busy man, 'but ho would do what he could to push tho matter on. ■The motion was carried.
