RIFLE SHOOTING

Over 160 riflemen from nil parts of Zealand assembled at Papawai today to competent the 25th annual meetinsr of the Wairarapa Rifle Association, the comnetitions were enlivened by the presence of such proved shots as Messrs. R. J. King, A.L. Ballinger, E. Duncan, and Sergeant Loveday. The performance of Trooper L. Smith, 17th Ruahine itoßiment, m gaming a possiblo at 500 varils in tlie Canterbury match was remarkable, as this rifleman was a' tyro competitor, and had never done any outdoor shooting prior to the present season. He received his training in a miniature nflo range. The weather was fine, though shooting conditions were marred bv a nastv "fishtail" wind which sprang up uist after the firing of the Bidwili Match. During the afternoon Mr. J. 0 Bidwili (patron) and Sir Walter Buchanan, foresident of the Wairurapa Association) were present. The following ai'ft the results;—
