NOTES AND COMMENTS

, (By Qlkncobo Acceptances for the Napier Park meeting close to-morrow night with Secretary J. E. Gleadow. Tho Napier Park meeting will bo held ! on Friday and Saturday next. The annual meeting of tho Nelson 1 Jockey Chib will be held on Thursday • and Saturday of this week. Acceptances for all events at the Dannevirke meeting close on Wednesday at 8 p.m. A feature of the Wanganui meeting on Saturday was the success of horses trained by the Fordell mentor F. Tilley. : Tho stable named turned out four winners, viz., Kinsem (who was also successful on the opening day), Isabel, Client and Tamo Fox. Several Trentham-trained horses with engagements at the Nelson meeting aro booked to leave by the Pateena, which sails at 1.30 p.m. to-day. Amongst the number are Rose Pink, Esperance, Russet, Spangle, Matty, Prince Delaware, Restful, and several trotters. A noticeable item in connection with tho Nelson Cup, to bo decided on Thursr day, is that all the horses entered for tho race have made the acceptance. Though he did not win the AVanganui Cup, Client succeeded in placing the Wanganui Stakes to his owner's credit on Saturday. The Elevation gelding has been a most consistent performer throughout his career on this course, and ho lias won several good stake-, including two AVanganui Cupi. Client is now numbered amongst the aged division; in fact, ho is eight years old, but as he is thoroughly sound he will probably see out the present season, after which Ilia owner will most likely think of retiring him as lie is too smnll to bo likely to succeed as iv juniper. The T'.R.C. Meeting was opened at Fleinington. on Saturday. The New. market Handicap was won by the outsider Red Borne, one of the The Welkin tribe. The favourite Chrysolaus wbb early in front, but disappeared at the business end of the race, eventually finishing seventh. Chrysolaus is a five-year-old by Roi Herodo (sire of Tho Teh-arch), who also has another costly horse, The Degtroyor, Toeing in Aus tralia. Red Dome was bought last season for 350gns„ and as the winner's share in Saturday's raco was 2527 sovs. she win very cheap at thfe price. The St. Leger proved an easy thing for Artilleryman, who won as he liked from tho other two starters. There is a lot of money to bo won with a good three-vcnr-ild "in Australia, and the Comedy King colt has already won clow upon ,£IO,OOO in stakes. It is not often that a high-class horse is asked to contcst two races on tho ono day, but such was tho case with the brilliant Cetigne, who at Fleinington on Saturday took his place in tho Newmarket field and ran into third place with 9st. Gib. in tho saddle. A couple of races later he was again started and won tho Essendon Stakes, of ono inilo and a half. Cetigne is now a seven-year-old, and the amount of racing he gets through is surprising. To date ho has won over .£"20,000 in stakes, and with a little luck he may overhaul tho record which has stood to Carbine's credit for so many years. . The success of Colbert in the Dtuijhwick Stakes, one mile and a quarter, draws attention to the chances of the son of Tressady in the Australian Cup to b« run to-morrow. He has only got 7st. lib. to carrv. which is a luxurious impost for a six-year-old. Colbert should bo well ab'.e to get the distance, <s he woii the St. Leger in 1917.
