BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETS:
The Wellington College Board of Governors met yesterday morning, Mr. W. F. Ward presiding. There were also Present: Sir Edward Gibbs, and Messrs. W. H. Field, M.P., T. Forsyth, and W. Allen. •
The financial statement shewed a credit bala.>;e of JE2l3i Us. 3d."at the bank. Payments required amounted to ,£I3BB 2s. Ild. for the Wellington College, and ■£117!).U5. for the Girls* College, leaving a debit balance of .£4lB 4s. lid. Bents outstanding totalled ,£67 Bs. 3d.; fees due for AVcllington College amounted.to .£2721 10s.. and for the Girls' College £2189 Is. 3d. These amounts included frce-placo fees, amounting to .£2406 13s. id,, and 6s. Bd. respectively. It was etated that £%0 had been received on account of free-place capitation, and .£BOO paid on account of alterations to'the college gymnasium. .The number on tho roll at Wellington College this year was reprted to bo 678. "With the new rooms in order," wrote Mr. J. P. Firth (headmaster), "we are still very full,-but better off than last year, except that we have no addition to laboratory accommodation. The new rooms are auite satisfactory, and the alterations to the gymnasium and armoury aro well under way."
BOYS' COLLE(WS EXAMINATIONS
RECORD. A summary of. "Wellington College's record in the examinations of last year was Dresented by Mr. Firth. This showed that two pupils gained Junior Univer6itv Scholarships (Ist and 4th); two gained Senior University National Scholarships; three po,ssed junior University Scholarships with credit, and ono matriculated on the same paper; two passed Duntrbpn entrance examination (Ist and 2nd in' Now Zealand); eight completed matriculation, 41 passed matriculation, solicitor's general knowledge* nnd medi'cal preliminary; four passed the Public Service entrance examination, three with credit (7th and 13th in New Zealand); 11 sained Senior National. Scholarships (Ist in New Zealand); four gained credit in Public Service entrance examination; seven sained Junior National Scholarship (Ist in New Zealand); 85 . gained senior free places by examination, and 107 bv recommendation. Thus 'Wellington. College sained first place in New Zea-. land in the following examinationalJunior University National Scholarship, Duntroon i Entrance Senior National Scholarship, and Junior National Scholarship, and seventh, and thirteenth places in the Public Service entrance.
GIRLS' COLLEGE. The Girls' College record showed that two earned University scholarships, three gained credit, and two nmtricuLrted. In the matriculation examinations 10 passed (including partial passes), being 80 per cent, of those entering. Three pupils trained Senior National Scholarships and five gained Junior Nationol Scholarships.
