NEED TO SAFEGUARD ALLIANCES. (Rec. February 22, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, February 18. There was an impressive ceremony at the Elvsees when M. Descbanel was installed President. A salute of twentyone guns was fired. M. Poincare, in welcoming M. Deschanel, said: "You liave to pursue unremittingly the execution of the Peaco Treaty/ which Germany is only too ready to evade. You must safeguard our alliances, impart life into the League of Nations, aud make peace, once acquired, indestruct-ible."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
