FREEZING WORKERS' CLAIMS
I By Telegraph—Press Association, Christchurch, February 17. A conference wos held to-dav "between representatives of the South Island Associated Freezing Companies and the Canterbury Freezing Works nnd Related Trndts Unions regarding demands for increjised wages. Mr. Ellis (secretary of the union) stated ' afterwards that thy employers had offered n 10 per cent rise to hourly and weekly workers, and a 1\ per cent, riso to pieceworkers, in both instauccs inclusive of overtime. This wns similar to 0 the offer made at the recent Wellington B conference. This offer was not accepted to-day by the Freezing Works Federation, but it is understood that the companies intend \to pay the same rates ns were offered at the Wellington conforcnco, and pay the increnses in the existing agreement from February 1. Already one Christchnrch company li.ib decifted to pay tho increases from January 23.
