AMATEUR ATHLETICS

SATURDAY'S PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. A meeting of tho Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening to make arrangements lor tiio provincial championship meeting, which is to 1» held at tlio Basin Reserve on Saturday. Mr. R. W. M'Villv presided. It was reported that numerous entries had been received for tho meeting, and that strong teams would bs present from tho 'Wairarapa and Wanganui districts, as well as from local clubs. Fifteen championship, events will bo set down for decision, (lie. points countins for the M'Viily Shield, which is held at present |bv the Wairarapa Club. It is six years since the last competition for the shield took place, so it is anticipated that ..Saturday's contest will bo verv close indeed. In addition to the championships thero will ho several handicap events on the programme, also a lOflyds. Senior Cadet championship, and a Cadot relay race, for which twelve teams have entered. There will bo another relay race on tho programme also, for which several teams have entered, including the Wanganui relay tenm, which is considered to .be tho best in New Zealand. Altogether, it is exiweted that about 115 competitors will take-pari in the-mooting.
