BOARD OF TRADE

BUSINESS IN CHETSTCHCRCH.. (By Teleeranli—Presa Association.) Christchurch, February 17. ■■. Members of the Board of Trade arrived hero to-day to hold sittings of the board extending over this week, and probably into next week. The board has arranged to meet representatives of the millers and to discuss with them tho regulations to prevent thi> salo of flour for speculative purposes. ■ Mr. M'Donald, chairman of the board, stated to-day that his inquiries showed that the /lour position had been eased by tho mero i : ■fact of the publication of the restriction • regulations, which had stopped specula.tive transactions. Ee agrees with the Christchurch groccrs that the shortage in .-this city was largely bogus, and it was ■ created by. consumers hoarding. A con- .- tributing factor, lie believes, was a disarrangement of shipping from Oatnaru and Timarii. Tho Tesult was that orders were sent to Christchurch instead of to those towns. The Union Company, it. is . understood, has arranged to send small vessels to Oamnru andTiniaru, and they probably will deal'with all the accumulations of flour there. The Canterbury Master Bakers' Association will discuss the price of bread with tho board, and the Returned Soldiers' Association will » discuss the shortago of-cement. ..
