Nominations 'for the Napier Park meeting close on Friday at 8 p.m. ■ Acceptances for the Wanganui meeting close on Mondnv next. The Wooilville District Jockey Club's autumn meeting wili be held on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Special trains will run irom Palmemton North each day. The well-known Mnrton sportsman Mt. S. J. Gibbons is at present ou a visit to Wellington in connection with some licensed victuallers' business.' Alics Montrow, winner of tha Scurry Handicap on the second day of the Tarn naki meeting, was originally purchased for 30s. She broke away from lut attendant when being taken home, and was not found for a little while, by her purchaser, Mr. G. Brown, who, on getting her back, disposed of her to her present owner for £5.
Prior to winning at Dunediu Silve: Peak was purchased by Mr. W. Stone, of Invercargill for SOOgns. The southern sportsman has a biff team in work, nnd he does not win more than his share of races, so that a victory for one carrying his colours is always pleasant to record. Right and Left has not been a lucky two-year-old, and it looks as if he is not quite in thft first class. Consistency is, his forte, and he iias rarely been out of a place this season. Hi's new owner (Mr. G. L. Stead) has decided to give him every chance, and he will not race again until the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes. The absence of Gloaming, Right and Left, and Surveyor from the Jackson Stakes will rob that event of a good deal of interest, and the field will probably dwindle down to Silver Link, Hjmestra, and Acre. Tho objectionable practice of putting hack the starting time of rac?s has been verj noticeable al some of the country meetings lately, and it is time the authorities took cognisance of it. Some time back tho practice became so bad that the Pacing Conference had to take the matter up, and it looks- as if it is necessary to again remind some clubs that they have a duty to the public. 11. Telford came back to Tre.nUiam after the Hamilton meeting, but his team went on to Wanganui, and will raco there next week. Local stable." will be well reprinted at the Woodvillo meeting this week. J. H. Prosser is sending up Coldstream and Bestir. J. Ayres will take Hallowvo nia, Astinome, Maltby, Battle Array, and Dainty Step, and 0. Pritehaid will take Arch Lassie, fisp.-rance, and Restful. The first of- tho three big Australian autumn fixtures wns commenced at Caulfield on Saturday. The Oakleigih. Plate was won by Molly's lMe, who is owned by a Queensland lady. Molly's Robe is a five-year-old mare by Syce (Cyllene— ■Skyscraper), from Microbe (Warpaint— Microphone), and amongst her successes last season was tlwl V.R.C. Newmarket Handicap. Tho St. George's Slake, wcight-for-age, run over nine furlongs, proved a good thing for tlie Melbourne Cup winner Artilleryman, who was followed home by Cetigne. The meeting is to bo concluded on Saturday next, when the richly endowed Futurity Stakes will b9 run.
