ANNUAL PICNICS
WAR EXPENSES AND BASE RECORDS . Sunshine and clear skies favoured tho combined .staffs of tho War Expenses nnd Base Records Departments with their annual picnic held at Day's Bay in Friday last. The special boat which left Wellington in the morning was taxed to the utmost to accommodate tho largo crowd of picnickers, and on arrival tho many shady corners of the spacious grounds were soon occupied. By careful organisation tie various committees concerned with the programme in general managed to keep matters going with u swing, and young and old spout a never-to-be-forgotten day. A special word of praise is duo to members of tho Management Committee under the leadership of tho secretary (Mr. F, J. Price, who spared no pains in carrying out their many and various duties, and to the Sports Committee who fulfilled a !ong and varied, programme in a manner which called forth high appreciation from nil concerned. The Hon. Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen, K.C.8.) was present during tho day, and the Departmental leads, Lieut.-Colonel Hutchcon (War Expenses) and Colonel Roache (Base Records) took a keen interest in the proceedings. Fancydress parade (ladies)— Miss Carmthers, 1; Miss Thompson, 2. There were 'nrious races for the children. ELECTRIC LIGHTING DEPARTMENT. The first annual picnic of the Wellington Electric Light Department of the City Council, held at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, on Saturday, was a distinct success. Including tho children, there must have been between.,2oll nnd POO present, and all enjoyed a splendid day's romp in.tho beautiful grounds. Among those presont were the General Manager (Mr. AV. 11. Mrirton). the manager nnd engineer 'Mr. George Lauchlan), awl the supervisor (Mr. F. AV. Good). During Hie day. sports were held, in sylvan surroundings.
