THE WATERSIDERS PROFITEERING
Sir,—l wish to bring under the notice of the general public- mid Welfare League the fact that some of tho » ntersiders are- at present earning up to .18 per week, and the coal workers A 25 per month, and upwards; that is, those men who aro willing to take overtime and whatever is going. Clan we expect men to go into the country dairy lurming to work seven days per -veefc, i-nd a. kinds of weather, with long hours and losses of stock, when men on the wharf can cam the above wages and still ere not satisfied, but want another rise of 40 per cent.? Can the cost of living he reduced with such preposterous demands, for it is all put on tho cost ■<( goods. If, is quite time we had a 'bethr class of men on the water-front to work the shipping, and disperse the "Red Fed.' Party. I am glad to fee tho Welfare league is taking the Matter up, and the public should back them up in their endeavours on behalf of the general public. Thanking you in antbipation--1 am ' ° CONSCIENTIOUS WORKER. Wellington. February 5.
