A T OTES AND COMMENTS

(By Glexcoe.)

Owners are reminded that acceptances for the Egmont meeting, to be held on Wednesday and Thursday next, close to-night.

The Gisbomo meeting will be concluded to-day. Chillies, winner of tho first, day's hurdles, only meets Happy Valley on 91b. worse terms, and as the distance is n quarter of a mile further the. Hastings representative may get his naino on.the lons list of double hurdle winners at a meeting. The Auckland-owned Gatherer, who did not arrive in time for the first day's races, has been accepted for in two events, and the Multifid gelding should show up well in whatever ho starts in.

Tlio consistent but unlucky Eed Edna is to be a runner in tho Scum', and she and Irapuka may bo the hardest to beat.

Owing to the presence of a good numbsr of southern horses there will bo n great deal of interest locally in tiie Hamilton nieetingj w-hich is to open today.

The Yaldhurst representative Golden Crazier is engaged in the Trial Stakes, one mile, and as the class is not strong the chestnut may be soon in a honourable light.

Daytime, Bst. 21b., and King Lupin-, 7st. 01b., read well in tho Clandelands Handicap field. Both are very smart beginners and may have too much pace for the others. Ring Lupin likes the solid going, and he showed at Taknpuna that ho has not lost any of his pace. The Tamahere Stakes, five furlongs, is for two nnd three-year-olds. H. Telford's charge Blackmail is included amongst the acceptors and, ridden by I/. G. Morris, her paco on tho circular track- will ruako the task of the remainder very difficult, At Trentham Blackmail snowed up very well behind Bight and Left, Gasbag, and Demand, three first-class two-year-olds. Tho Hamilton Cup has drawn a good field, which was only to bo expected as tho stake is .£IOOO. On Awapuni form Kilrush must bo given an undeniable chance, and lie and Punka may hold tho others safe. It. Hannon has got Tinopai and King Lupin in tho race, but their form nt Takapuna was not encouraging enough to suggest that they could beat thb top weight. . The imported Arrow-smith heads, the list in the Cambridge Handicap with 9st. 51b. on his back. Bindle, Bst. Tib.. is next on the list, but Arrowsmith should hold him safe on Trentham form, where there was 15lb. between them against 121b. to-day. 80-Peep, Bst. Gib., won tho same evont last year with Gib. more on her back, but she was generally credited with being lucky to defeat Spanner, and the latter reversed the form on the next day. When he raced at Trentham Arrowsmith stripped a bit on the pretty side, and ho is probably much more forward now.

At Riccarton on. Monday, Mason was first out, and sent Gloaming, in company with Adoption, over half a, mile. The •■ champion persistently refused cither to go up or,, jump off with hi= mate, and, after a lot of persuasion, Ma'son himself went over to the post. Ho could not get Gloaming to go from the four furlong post,, but eventually he got him to go from the three furlongs. When once started he moved in very resolute style, and took some pulling up. Amythas, assisted by Burrangong over tho last, six, ran nine 'urlongs in lmin. s(!sec. the last mile taking lmin. Msec. Amvthas did his worlc 1n great style. Mandrako and Mustard Pot ,-ivem companions over a solidly run half-mile, left behind in 48 Msec. Both horses shaped well.
