* NOT NEEDED-POR, THE PRESENT. His Maiesty's Trade Commissioner'lias been advised by cablegram from the Department of Overseas Trade, London, that in. view of a recent decision in the courts, import licenses aro not required at. present on shipment of goods to the United Kingdom in respect to which rcstictions remained in force after September 1. 1919, except, firstly, firearms, military arms, and parts thereof, ammunition, and explosives; secondly, certain articles specially prohibited by the Customs Consolidation Act, 1896, or other emielnients. ]n view of tho judgment H.M. Customs have been instructed to allow importation of all articles affected, pending cither reversal on appeal or legislation. Appeal aj'ai'ist Mr. Justice Sankev's decision is being entered. - Tho position is that, licenses aro not l'ciiuii'cd at present, but in tho event of restrictions being roimposed by legislalion. or iudgment being reversed on anneal, licenses will not be granted merely on (he ground that the goods had been ordered between now and the date of recsiablishment of restrictions, but the decision to grant or refuse licenses would be based solely on consideration of the reasonable reciuiremcnls of\the country.
