At the Lyttcllou Magistrate's Court to* day, Eilmond Stcphoiisoii was charged with stealing a quanity of tea md sufar, the proporty of tlie Uuion Steam Shi)) Company. The- police slated tliat accused, who was « Kremiin on the Maori, was eeen coming oft' the gangway yesterday afternoon carrying a parcel which, on being examined, was found to contain n quantity of tea and sugar. The manager of tlio Lyttclton office of the Union Steam Ship Company said that thieving of ships' 6tores was becoming much too prevalent, and it was a hard matter to detect who wero the culprits. The company supplied omplo stores to the men. Accused was fined <£3, in default 81 days' imprisonment.
