PAISLEY BY-ELECTION
ME. ASQUITU'R VTFWS ON IRISH QUESTION.
London, February 3. Mr. n. H. Asquith. speaking in connection with his candidature for the Paisley seat, said we must persevere without delay in granting a system of Irish selfgovernment. Personally he was prepared to run the risk of giving the Irish Parliament control of excise. He was not afraid that,, the majority would inflict hardship on tho minority, because they would suffer more than Ulster, while it would be also against the interests of Ireland to declare a republic as a means of voluntary self-exclusion from the Empire. Ho favoured devolution all round. Mr. Bonar Law, in a letter, wishes Mr. M'Kean (Coalitionist) success in the Paislcv ibv-clectkm. He says ho has tho greatest respect for Mr. Asquith, but the suggestion that Mr. M'Kean should withdraw in favour of Mr. Asquith is absurd.
Mr. Crawford Vaughan, of South Australia, will speak on behalf of Mr, Asquith—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
THE NOMINATIONS. (Eec. February 5, 1.15 a.m.) London, February 3. Messrs. Asquith (Liberal), Biggnr (Labour), and M'Kean (Coalition Unionist) have been nominntrd for the Paisley seat. Each candidate's nomination paper was signed exclusively by women. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
