Further mention was made in tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. W. 6.' Itiddell, S.M.. of the case against a young man named Walter James Smith, al'ias Aubrey Bell, charged with nu attempt to murder William Murphy and John Murphy, at Island Bay, on January 22 of this year. Accused was also charged with the theft of various articles, tho property of William Murphy. Mr. C. A. L. Troadwell. who appeared for the accused, asked for, a remaud, as he wa? not ready to go oii. Chief-Detective Ward, in objecting to any further remand, said the man had already been in custody for ten days, and had admitted that ho had placed strychnine in the food. Mr. Treadwell objected to this statement being made at this juncture. His Worship granted the remand, and tho case was set down for February 11.
