YACHTING
ANNIVERSARY DAY REGATTA PKIZE-GIVING. On Saturday evening at the Boat Harbour the prizes won at the Anniversary Day regatta were presented. The prizes and results of the 'racing have already been announced. Despite the unfavourable weather a large number of 'yachtsmen rolled up and, a very jolly evening was spent. Mr. W'. Duncan, commodore of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club, presided, and congratulated winners in very felicitous terms. After the toast of "The King" several others were honoured. Mr. F. Kiernan proposed the toast of "Yachting,' and referred to the resourcefulness, nerve, good fellowship, and sportsmanship that it developed. He also referred to those men present who had served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and the good record ,they had made in the Old Country. Mr. A. J. Pethericlc replied. Tho winners were toasted after a G. Bothnmley. Mr. B. Clarke responded and recounted the welcome' he had heceived m his visits to vacht clubs in other parts of the world, and referred lo the strength of the bond that exists between men everywhere who engage in tho sport. He referred to the splendid training in the use of tho sea received by tho men who follow tho sport in Wellington Harbour. In a tight place he considered there were no men to be found more dependable than these. The toast of tho officers of the day was proposed by Mill. Batten, and Mr. Gendall replied. .Vocnl and instrumental items were supplied by the Boat Harbour Jazz Band and by several other gentlemen. The accompanist was Mr. Williams. In closing, tho commodore announced that the postponed centre-board general handicap event would be decided upon the race I'mthe inter-ciub cup to'he held on February
