MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Wellington City Council was held last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors G. I'Yost, Len. M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, T. Forsyth, M. F. Luckie, J. 0. Shorland, J. M. Bale, C. H..Chapman, J. Glover, J. Hutchison, P..Eraser, H, -A. Wright. It was (!ec:'<led that tho tramway tracks in Lnmbton Quay, "Willis Street, Manners Street, and Courtenay Place borenewed as soon as possible. The General Manager of the Tramways Department was instructed to bring down n 6chemo for tho expansion of the tramway undertaking, and on'cning up of new routes which will provide for the present needs and future development of the outlying portions of the city and suburbs. Application :'s to be made to the Government for an Order-in-Council to authorise the council to run tramways from the junction of Jervois Quay and Lower Cuba Slreet to Courtenay Place. It was decided to open up negotiations with the Railway Deuirtmont for tho acquisition of a strip of land for the purpose of widening Wnlcefield Street from the -.ntcsectioii of Taran.iki Street to Clyde Quay. The Milk Committee reported that tho present indications were that the supply of milk for next winter would be at least equal to tho supply (i last winter, aud probably even letter. The council confirmed resolutions carried at a special meeting of the council on December IS last respecting the raising of a special loan of &12,f100 for milk Biipplv purposes, the raisin?,of a special loan of for street-widening; purposes, and for repaying to the District Fund moneys expended for street-widen-inn purposes, and for the raising of a. special loan of .£30,000 for Hie provision of drainage for the'repaying to Hie Dstn'ct Fund monevs expended m and lor tho drainage of Melrose. Wndestoivn, and Northland districts. . The council also parsed a resolution aulliorifr.ig tho raising of upocnl loans establishing sinking fund' authorising the institution of debentures, and tho mortgage of snino to the Union Hank. . A sum of .£7OO was authorised ns special expenditure during the next financial vear, for painting and renovating the pavilion at Williams Park (Days Bay) and for doing certain work to tho custodian's, cottage.
