FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
i * MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN MATTHEWS. (Rcc. January 27, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, January 27. Captain Matthews cabled from Bagdad on January 21 as follows-.—"We ilew from Constantinople \o Aleppo on January 14 without a stop in three hours, at an altitude of 10,000 foot, 200 miles being over mountains and ravines. It was :m----nossible to land. There was snow everywhere, and i-ain followed. . At Aleppo tlioro wcro no hangars and no British. Wo flew from Aleppo to Bagdad on January 21 in four hours, experiencing the first fine,flying weather. An overhaul wns carried out here with every
assistance from tho, R.A.l''. Wo are leaving on January 27, and will go by
the usual route to India. The overage sneed to dato is 101 miles an hour. Tho machine, is wonderful in bad weather. The crew is O.K."—Press Assn.
