CONSIDERED AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

By Telegraph-Special Correspondent. PSlmerston North, January 27. The matter of the coining to an end of the meat commandeer was brought up at a meeting of the Palmerston North A. and P. Association to-day. Tho chairman (Mr. H. Akers) said tho position was ono which Killed for immediate action and must bo faced. Tho freezing works were congested with meat, and so far as could bo seen, relief was not likely to be adequate. He announced that the following week a meeting ot those interested would he held at which Messrs. Burrell and Poteon would speak, and he invited all to attend. , . Other members expressed tho opiuiou that tho position was becoming serious, ns tho freezing \vork3 were filled to overflowing and tho ships coming to New Zealand were disappointingly' few in numbers. Ono member said that no knew of oight freezing companies that wero on the point of dosing down unless relief in the shape of shipping was forthcoming. Farmers \ppeared to bo too sure that matters were all right. Ships supposed to be coming for meat were merely phantom ships, and a good many wore 'diverted to Australia for wheat. If the Feilding works bad not put up a new big 6toro thoy would bo in a similar plight to tho eight mentioned.
