AMATEUR ATHLETICS
WELLINGTON CENTRE.
A meeting of the committee of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held m the Y.M.C.A. rooms, was attended by Messrs. R, W. M'Villy(in the chair), H. Paton, T. W. Leslie. F. ITodson, Q. Lusk, A. W. Travers, W. Willis. J. Robinson, A. 0. Kitto, and J. O'Sullivan (hon. sec). .„.■', It was decided to hold the Provincial Championship Meeting and theM'Villy Shield comuetitiin at the Basin Reserve on February 21. The following committees were appointed:—Advertising: Messrs. J. Hecnan, G. Lusk, and. D. M'Keizie. Ground: Messrs. A. W. Travers, F. Hodson, and H. Paton. Programme: Messrs. A. C. Kitto and J.' O'Sullivan. The appointmentof otihor committees and officials was left over. The City Council is to be asked for pcrmission to make a jumping pit in the email ■playground in the corner of tho Basin Reserve, it being pointed out that tin' would only bo used after 5 p.m., and would not interfere with the children in any way. At present there is no place where any practice in jumping, etc., can be obtained. _ On tl'ne suggestion being made that coaches be appointed far the younger members, it va* unanimously decided that .Messrs. L. M'Kay and J. Wilton be »sked to accept tho position. Both these officials have always taken a keen intercst in amateur sport, and by appointing such coaches tho centre hopes to bring out ttie youuger runner*, especi. allv those from the colleges and publio schools. Tlio centre has arranged for several school and college events at the provincial m6eting, and also two events for Senior Cadets—loo yards championship, and the cadet relay race champion, ship.
