MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND CIVIL CASES.
Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the polico cases. Charles Inglis was charged that on January 20, being a bookmaker, he did make.a bet with Lyalh Douglas Marshall in the Caledonian Hotel, lie was convicted and fined and costs 7s. Thomas O'Rorke was ordered to pay 455. per week towards the mainteminco of his wife and three children.

Duncan was ordered to givo up possession of n teiiemont to Mary .tolinstone by February 17. Henry 11. Bates was ordered to givo up possession of a tenement to John R. Baird by February 7, and to pay £K 13e. Gd. rent and Jil 16s. cosfe-;. In the case of G. Vadala v. Charles Hedderwick, a claim for possession of a tenement and M 2s. lOd. "rent, judgment was entered for plaintiff for tho amount claimed, but no order was inado for possession. BY-LAW CASES. Messrs. I. Salek and 11. Hume, Justices of tho Peace, hoard tho by-law cases. For failing to stop his motor-cycle when requested to do so by a constable on duty, Thomas H. W. Callingham was lined £i, .and costs 135,, and for riding his motor-cycle at an oxcessivc speed he was fined a further 205., «ud costs. Henry Hayvico was lined 205., and i costs 75,, for riding his bicycle without a light. For exceeding the speed limit in Court- , enay Place, Eric Jenkins was fined 10s., and costs 75., and a similar penalty was imposed upon him for leaving h.s motorcar in Moore Street without a light. For driving ft motor-car without a light in Vivian Street, Charles Marshall was fined 205., and costs 7s. , Leslie- M. Pearson, who was convicted of driving his motor-ear on tho wrong side of tho road, was fined .10s., and cost's 190-. A lad named Joseph Radciiffe was ordered to pay 7s. costs for riding a bicycle without a light. Montague Shaw was fined 10s., and costs 75., for leaving his car in Thorndon Quay without a light. ' R. Masters was charged with driving a motor-car on tho wrong side of Taranaki Street on tho night of December 3. Mnßtcrs, who was defended by Mr. G. W. Mellish, pleaded not guilty. The defendant met a corporation cart on the night in question, and the drivers of both vehicles ivero at some fault, and the motor-oar, in endeavouring to fvoid tlio corporation cart, collided with a lamp post. After evidence had been given the information was dismissed. James Macintosh, for whom Mr. V. B. Willis appeared, was.fined J.'s, and costs £i 25., for driving a molor-car at an excessive speed when turning the corner from Jervois Quay into Ilnrris Street, and for driving on the wrong side of tho road when turning into Harris Street. A fine of ,£l, and costs 75., was inflicted on P. H. O'Donnell for exceeding the speed limit when driving his car from Cambridge Terrace into Courto-iay Place.
