MR, B. BELL'S GIFT ACCEPTED,
By Tolegraph-Prcbs Association. , Christchurch, January 26. Mr Robert Boll's gift of £30W> to tho Canterbury College to establish a. school of iournalism was brought before the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to-day, when Mr. Bell's letter, conveying the gift and setting forth the conditions was read. , , , ~ Air. Acland (chairman) moved that the letter be received; that the board gratefully accept the generous gift, and writeto Mr. Bell thanking him; nnd that tho conditions should 1m referred to the Professorial Board for consideration and report. He said that it was satisfactory to note in connection with the gift that Mr. Bell had not waited for the letter to be written by his executors, but had made tho gift in his lifetime. That fact showed Mr. B.Ml's very great generosity.. It was' noticeable that within tho past year Canterbury College had received far more- in tho'way of gifts, such as Mr. Bell's or gifts by wills, than it had received in the whole of the previous 4fi years of its existence. He hoped that the'example set by Mr. 81l would be followed by other Canterbury citizens.
