Dr. If. H. Watt, district health officer, left for Nelson yesterday on Departmental business. , Messrs. Arnaud M'Kcllar, Peter M. C. Cloary, John A. Kedpath, jun., and James A. Boswell have been appointed to bo members of the Christchurch Coal Trade Committee. •A. Press Association messiißo from Christchurch last night stated :-"Tho Canterbury College Hoard of Governors received a letter to-day stating that Mr. C. 13. Bevan Brown (headmaster of the Boys' High School) was snriously ill in Du'ncdin, and had undergone an operation. It would bo impossible for bim to velum for tho next term. The board passed a motion of sympathy. The question of appointing an acting-headmaster was referred to a committee. • Mr. Bevan Brown's notice of resignation, to taka effect at the end of twelve months was also received by tho board."
