The managers of St. David's Presbyterian Church informed the council that the water pressure was fio bad on Sunday last that dillicuUy was experienced with tho organ. They asked that tho pressure be increased during divine service.
The engineer (M:\ Cowie) attributed I ho' lack of pressure to the fact that (he pipes were too small, ind that a low-pressuro motor was required instead of a high-pressiiri! motor. It was decided to point these things out to the managers. Councillor Anderson called attention to the state of the raft provided tor tho use of swimmers on the foreshore. Hu finid that it was broken and partially submerged; Councillor Hay fugf.osted that tho council should maku inquiries with a, view to acquiring some of the rafts which are being taken frcni the old troopship?, and the engineer was instructed to .miko tho necessary inqiiirif-s from the Defence Department. Jn the meantime, the old raft will be replaced ny one now in readiness, which will bo moored nearer the shore for the u;e of children as well as adults.
In reply to a question by Councillor Tovey, the Jinyor stated that the motorambulance had been re.vived from tho Defence Department, It required a now '.over, and a eor.t of paint, but was otherwise in Urst-ch.-" order. Eishworth) preRided over tho fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hull Borough Council la.st night Apologies for absence were received from Councillor* Alneaskill and Guineas. Mr. J. C. Mnckley asked the council to pay half the cost of the material for a new paling fence between his property and the Recreation Ground. The request was referred to the engineer, who was instructed to seo that a proper- fence was erected. The borough engineer (Mr. E. A. Gumbley) reported that potholes in the Main Hoad had been patched, the Western Hntt Road scarified.and graded, and Mie northern end of that road patclud. Throe new sewer and five new water contractions had been made. Seats had been erected at Donnelly's corner, and at the corner of Nai Nai Limn. Tho one at the corner o? Witake Street would bo erected shortly. For the month of November l.sno.flltfl cubic feet of pan had been purchased from Petone. Of this amount I,SH,'M cubic feet had been consumed for domestic purposes, 133,200 for power purposes, and fIS.OOO for street lighting. The gas unaccounted for Amounted to 4.7 per cent. The figures for the same month last year were not nv.iilable. For the ?anic month 107 consumers had had ■!#" burners cleaned and KMuantl,ed at a. cost of ,013 Ills. fid. Tho revenue derived amounted to ,£l2 3s. lid. Nine applications for gas connections wore granted.
