THE WOOL COMMANDEER

(To the E<litor.) Sir,—l quite agree with "Manawatu Farmer" in all he says re wool commandeer. As another wool-grower the part I hat 'nuzzles me is, if we were puuiotio enough to 801 l our wool at practically nothing dining the war, why was advantage laken of us, and the commandeer extended for another year? I certainly do not blamo Mr. Massey, a3 the extension was agreed upon during his absence by the late Minister of Agriculture in the National Government. At the eame time 1 ihink it is now up to tiio present Government to see that the present robbery of the New Zealand farmers is stopped. South Africa is reeciving about 10s. per lb. far its woolstuff that vised !o sell at. 7d. per lb. The excuse of the shipping- difficulty is ridiculous; it is the duty of our Government to see that, shipping is available. Ami. talking about shipping-, the enormous profit that is bein; made nowadays by shipping companies is an eyeopener. Shares bought at .£IOO in tho P. and O. Line are now selling at over .£6OO. In any ease, instead of the bait of half prolits, most of us prefer to take our chances in a free and open market, and be allowed to receive a little compensation ior our voluntary cheap wool given during Ike war.—l am, etc., ANOTHER PKODUCER.
