9 A short silting of the Magistrate's Court was hold on Saturday morning, .Mr. E. Page, S.M., being on the bench. A fireman named P.asil Drown was charged with being found drunk in the i'orirua railway station, with wilfully damaging a paiie of glass, value 12s. (id., the propertv of the New Zealand Government, and 'further witli assaulting some person unknown between Wellington and Porirua. On the application of SenwrSrr"oant Wade, a icmand for ft week was granted in order that further inquiries may bo made. Bail was granted m tlio sum of ,£SO and one surety of .-£ao. Alexander Campbell, who had spent a week in gaol undergoing medical treatment for indulging in alcohol to excess, was convicted of drunkenness and ordered to pnv 17s. Bel. medical expenses. James 'Robertson, against whom there were three previous convictions tor drunkenness, had a prohibition order issued against him to be in forcp for a period of 12 months. l"or using obscene language in Cuba Street he was fined .£5, in default seven days nnpnsonm\n old man named Richard Dunn, who was found wandering about the city at an early hour on Saturday morning was charged with being an idle and disorderly person in that ho possessed no v'sible means of support According to the police evidence Dunn had been in the Ohiro Home but had cleared out of .hat institution and had since been knocking nbont and scavenging m rubbish tins for food ' Dunn was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within a period of two years; in tlio meanwhile ho is to stay in the Ohiro Home and conform to the rules and regulations of that institution. JUVENILE COURT. Mr E- Page. S.M., presided over a sittin" of the Juvenile Court. A lad about Hi years of age was charged with stealin"'live spanners, two rules, and one molt plane, the property of Messrs. C. and A. Odlin. The lad took the goods from Odlin's timber yard, sold some of them to a second-hand dealer, and lost he ro«t It was stated on behalf of the boy that his home surroundings were not conducive to good behavjour. The lad was convicted and placed on probation for a period of two years, and his parents were ordered to pay ss. ud. to tlio second-hand dealer. . 4. lad 15 years of age was convicted of detaining a postal packet addressed to a trooper at the Convalescent Home at Miramar. The lad. an official messenger, was given the packet to deliver, 'but he was either too tired or too careless to do so, and detained the packet for two or three days. The packet was eventually found on the stops of the home in' a dilapidated condition and the trooper did not receive it. Tho lad, who was given a good character by tne probation officer, was placed on probation for a. period of two years. • PETONE COURT A youth named Bruce B. Clulterbuck was charged before Mr. J. • M™™"' IP at the Pcrone Court on Saturday mVning with the theft of several; leiisth* of hosing. He was remanded until Wednesday next, when he will appear before the Magistrate.
