INFLUENZA
EPIDEMIC THROUGHOUT JAPAN
(Rec. January 25, 5.5 p.m.) Tokio, January 23. Influenza is epidemic. throughout Japan. There havo" been 200,000 cases in Tokio during the present month, including the Emperor's son, whose condition is serious. There were 1,700 deaths yesterday. Tho disease is milder than the last visitation, but-niore infectious. Tho population is using masks.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
ISOLATION OF PFETEFETTS BACILLUS CLAIMED. (Rec. January 25, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, January 23. A Chicago message states that Dr. Earle-CaiT, of the Great Lakes Naval Station Laboratory, claims to have effected the isolation of Pfeift'er's influenza bacillus.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THREE CASES ON VESSELS TN WELLINGTON. A steward on the Paleena was removed to the hospital yesterday suffering from a mild form of influenza. ' Two eases, of a more severe nature, were taken to thn hospital from ■ iho Corinna, the purser and the second engineer being the sufferers.
