$ REGULAR MEETING. ' The Coittral Chamber of Commerce met yesterday afternoon. Mr. C. ,-M Luke occupied the chair. Tlw chairman accepted an invitation from the Marlborough Chamber for <kleeates to visit the Marlborough district on a date to be arranged. The object of the visit will be to improve the commercial- relations of the Wellington and Marlborough districts. Tho recently-published report of., the Vk'i'mnce Committee of the Mangahao Ilvdrp-electric Power League was r«ul to the meeting, which thereafter carried the following resolution: "That the chamber cordially supports the proposal to nlaco all hydro-electric construction work under the jurisdiction of a board of commercial men acting under the Minister, with. power to. carry-out the construction of such works as rapidly as possible, and on sound business lines; that tk<>. chamber combine with the league, with a view-of urging tho Government to adont this course."
' Another resolution carried with reference to hvdro-clectric enterprise was in the following' lerms:--"Tn view of the immense amount of Public Works expenditure, which must necessarily be faced durum the next few years in order to overUke tho sihialion in New Zealand and to eauil) the country thoroughly in order to meet the world's demand upon it. this chamber supports the suggestion of the Mniigahno-Hydro-c'.cctrie Power League respoctfullv to urge upon the Prime Minister tlie groat necessity of selecting a colleague for that Department Jl' the widest possijjle vision and of the highest energy."
