WAR HONOURS

J NEARLY A QUARTER OF A MILLION CONFERRED An interesting table is issued by the War Office showing tiie total number of honours awarded in connection with the war, and how the total is made up. Exclusive of honours conferred on the Royal Air Force, altogether 249,387 were a warned between August, 1914, and Outol;31 last 236,035 for services in the field, and 13,352 for other war services. The following figures show how the total is composed-.— BRITISH FORCES. The total number of officers and men who passed through the British Army durinq- the war was approximately G.19G,000. In the South African AYar, when the total number of troops in the Field was 443,135, the number of honours conferred was as follows:—V.C.. 79; G.C.8., three; K.C.8.. 25; C.8., 292 (approximate!: G.C.M.G., four; K.C.M.G., eight; CM.fi., 110 (approximate); D.5.0,, 1143; D.C.M., 2050 (approximate).
