PLUCKY RESCUE BY BOY SCOUT
(Knneiiil Correspondent.', Palnverston North, January 19. A vcrv plucky' rescue, which toes to show the value of training in the art of lilc-saving, was performed by Sergt.Major Robbie, of No. 2 troop of the Palmerston North Bov Scouts, whose ago is only thirteen. He was walking along the'banks of the Jiannwatu River yesterday afternoon when he noticed two little girls bathing. One of them, named Mona Robertshaw, got into difficulties, nnil was being carried away by the stream about twenty feet from the bank. The screams of the other child attracted the youthful n.c.n., and, without hesitation," he took otT his clothes, plunged into the water, and swnm to her rescue. By this time the girl had gone down for the second time. The boy, who is a strong swimmer, succeeded in getting hold of the child and brought lier safely to shore. He immediately applied lifetaving methods, which the Scouts had also been taught, and was successful in bringing her round. Miss Robertshaw is nothing the worse for her immersion, thanks In the gallant action of young Kobbie. It is likely Hint the mnttc.r wil be brought under the notice of the Jioyul Humane Society.
