ROWING

Tho Star Boating Club and the Wellington Rowing Club have invited the l'etono Rowing Club to participate in nn Inter-Club Regatta at Wellington on January 30. The last meeting of tho clubs' representatives was at Petono early last month, when some exciting races were witnessed. A very close finish was seen in the Maiden Fours, (all boats lmishing within threo feet of the winner), but this should be altered this time, as the Wellington crew has had a good deal of training, and tho Star's crow has undergone very great changes. The events to be rowed s are senior and junior maiden and youths' fouw and, very probably, maiden pairs and double sculls. In tho maiden and youths' fours, tho clubs' crows for the Wanganui Regatta of February 21 will compete, and if good form is evident, somo of these may go to Christchurch for February 7. The drawing of crews for tho Star Boating Club's junior double sculls resulted as follows: Carter and Shorland, Hart and Brown, Wakolin and Jaqucs, Tcviotdnlc and M'Kenzie, Emerson and Anyon, Harris and Blaxall, Nelson and Markmann, Martin and Newey. A start will be made with tho first heats on January 20. A meeting of the-Ladies' Bazaar Committee of the Pctone Rowing Club was held in the boat house this week. Mrs. Love presided over a good attendance. Good progress was reported by the ladies collecting for tho stalls, etc. It is proposed to olt'er, by way of an art union, a gold specimen valued at ,£25, and work of art to the'value of .£125, for the purpose of raisin? funds for the purchoso of new equipment. The club at present is rowing off heats for the Club Memorial' Fours, and so far C. H. Burridge's crew has defeated O. H. Haddock's. The winner of the race between W u Shcaron's and A.' White's crews will be matched against the winners of the other heat on Saturday. Tho next event to be got off will be the club pairs. It is intended to enter crews for about four races at Die New Zealand Championship, to be held at Wanganui in February.
