FIGURES FOR NINE MONTHS

INCREASES IN EXPENDITURE

. Tlio Treasury figures relating to re.venuo and expenditure for the nine months" of the financial year ended December 31'.were made available by the Finance Minister yesterday. Tho revenue 'for the month of Decern, ber was £3,223,248, as against £3,005,082 for December-0f.1918, an. increase of

£217,5G6. •• There have been increases of approximately -.£150,000 in Customs, v £113,000 in Stamp duties, £85,000, in Postal revenue, .£30,000 in incoiue tux, and .£150,000 in Railway revenue, and a decrease of ,£370,000 in land tax. The revenue for the nine months has been'- ( -£14;3G5,595, as against £12,099,771 for the corresponding nine months of the previous financial year, so that the increase "in revenue is ,£2,2G5,82J. The biggest inoreases have been: Customs ,£719,305 Stamp duties £873,901, Railways .£521,517. Thero is a decrease- in beer duty of .£114,884. The total expenditure for the nine months was ,£10,830,739, as against £13,1GG;171 in 1918, an increaso of £3,604,568. The permanent charges show an increaso from .£7,000,530 • to .£8,405,885, but the increase is made up fully by increases in interest and sinking fund of .£872,423, and in exoenditure under Bpecialacts of ,£534,379.
