PRODUCTION OF CHEAP GOODS
FAVOURABLE PROSPECTS FOR BRITISH MANUFACTURERS. There is evideuco of misleading propaganda in regard to the ability of tha central European countries to resume export trade on a largo scale. Paragraphs in Britisii newspapers referring to possible prospective Hooding .of. tho market with cheap Gorman goods in such depart-, ments as toys and low-quality hardwaro and textiles, which are based on tho vaguest calculations rather than on any facts, aro distorted and circulated abroad so as to suggest that British, manufacturers are at a general disadvantage. Tho truth is that, on tho ono hand, Germany's power of producing quantities of goods of acceptable quahty is very small- at present, while on tho. other'haiid very rapid development is taking place in Uie further extension and special equipment of British factories* There has never been a time in tho history of the ; country when the nation s order book showed such an enormous total, and the bc-t judges of the situation aro convinced that tho prospects of export trade were never moro favour* able.
