The 0. and D. liner Port Plrio arrived yesterday from Port Kcraula. and berthed at the King's Wharf. The vessel experienced fine weather on the run across, and brings, a shipment of coal. She is the first of the Commonwealth and Dominion liners to arrive hero with her funnel painted the colours of the Cunard Linered with black top and two black bands. All 0. and D. liners are to have their funnels painted similarly. The vessel made a record passage from Hull to Sydney, without a stop, doing the voyago in 40 days This perfoniii'-.'ice surpassed that of the P. and 0. mail boat Orniond, which did tho journey in 48 days The average speed of the Port Pirie on the voyage was 13 knots. From the last-mentioned port the vessel iB to proceed to Auckland and Napier lor loaning. THE WAHINE. The ferry steamer Wahine is due U arrive at Port Chalmers at the end of this month from England. On cumple-. tion of a minor overhaul, the vessel will immediately re-enter the Wellington-1 Lyttelton ferry service.

GROSS STRAIT SERVICE. The cross strait packet Patecna is to be recommissioned on Saturday, and will in all probability bo ready to re-enter the service again on Monday. If all goeß well tho Mapourika will bo withdrawn from tho running, and will enter the Lyttelton-Wellington and New Plymouth cargo service. WAITEMATA WITH COAL.
