HOROWHENUA SHOW

OPENED AT LEVIN STOCK OF GOOD QUALITY The elements were anything but kind tn the Horowhcnua Agricultural and Pastoral Association on the occasion or the opening of its fifteenth show, which took place at Levin yesterday, the morning broke dull, and at noon a lairly heavy shower toll, which naturally militated against the attendance, and during the- afternoon the weather was decidedly moist. This is the first occasion in which the show has been interfeited with bv the weather. The association felt that its annual show was growing lo 3iich an extent as to warrant their extending the fixture over two days, but it is doubtful if the attendance, at nnv rate on the first day, will encourage a "repetition of the experiment. lno show is being held at the Levin ltncecourse, which provides a thoroughly suitable ground, and several improvements have been made since last year, not tho least being the erection of new coveredir. pig pens. Ho .sever, several improvements could be made in the arrangements, notably tho provision of numbers in the stud cattle. The entries numbered just upon SOU, an increase of oyer £00 from the previous %'iow. The quality of the stock on the whole left little to bo desired, and the bulk of it came forward in excellent condition. The first dav was devoted to , the judging oj. draught horses, ponies, cattle, sheep, ana pigs, while a sheepdog trial was in progress the whole day, and two or.throe, competitions were got off. To-day will bo devoted to judging light horses, and there will be a very wood programme of competitions, in addition to which pony races and motor-cvcle races will form part of the programme. Tho Prime Minister has announced his intention of being present at the show to-day, A review of the stock will appear tomorrow. .
